United In Charity
Mother Paula's Story:
For 50 years, Mother Paula has dedicated her life to serving the poorest of the poor and especially those who cannot help themselves, the children.
Her current work which United in Charity supports, began one morning shortly after Hurricane Mitch struck Nicaragua in 1998.
"... I found them (2 children) in the mud, eating the shell of some muddied fruits, sick and naked. Their parents had disappeared ..."
And so, the Orphanage/School was born. The children she serves, for the most part, suffer the ailments of severe poverty, wander the towns and streets with sallow faces and languid eyes, fragile bodies covered by scraps, bare feet, and sell whatever or whomever they can to survive.
They never know what it is to be a child, as this phase is marked with the struggle for their own survival and that of their young siblings.
Mother Paula gives them back their childhood.
